Honestly, who throws a shoe?

Even more importantly, who stole my ipod charger?

Hotlantic City

January 14, 2008 09:20.50 PM

So you want to be a baller eh? Go get yourself some nice jeans, your darkest shoes, a button up shirt, and your average Joe Cool black blazer. Don't forget to unbutton that shirt, it's casual Friday. Go to the bank and make sure you take out more money than you intend to spend so you look cooler. Walk over to the tables as if you own the place. When you get there, act as if you know what you're doing and, slowly but surely, lose all your money. You somehow have to find a way to hang on to your last few dollars so that when the waitress comes by, you can order something "cool" like a scotch on the rocks. As you come to the realization that you've blown through $140 in twenty minutes, you question your motives and strategy. You take a deep breath and make the same bets as the guy next to you who just signed out $1000 in chips. When you get some Naturals and Yos, then the point finally hits, you walk away only losing $90.
You my friend are a winner:

Oh... let's just say that little quarter machine won me a cool $105, back on top $15 suckers. Note the scotch in my right hand, damn, I'm cool.

Sushi is for suckas

January 14, 2008 09:20.44 PM

Alright, so this sushi trend is great and all but I'll leave it to the chefs. After spending $80 and taking four hours, I took this:

...and turned it into this:

If you're wondering what that big blob of white is up top, that is what you call an inside out roll. Yes, I am officially a master Chef. Long story short, leave it to the restaurants if you're looking for taste and presentation, but it's definitely one of those, do before you die things, so I recommend giving it a shot.

Step aside LEGO

January 14, 2008 09:20.35 PM

Now I loved LEGOs but I wasn't nerdy enough to get into the electronics because I did other things like stare at the tv, eat, and play sports. Over the past few days, I've come across, potentially, the coolest nerd toy I've ever seen and I finally have a chance to redeem myself for not taking advantage of the LEGO robot or the mechanical castle door.

Bug Labs is the adult's techie lego box. Enjoy.

UFBDirect at 5.10%

January 14, 2008 09:20.25 PM

Alright, this is me trying to be a financial adviser...

When you realize that you're a grown up and keeping all your money in a checking account only to be blown on immaterial things such as bar tabs, restaurants, domain names, and dry cleaning is stupid, you have to look into ways of saving some money. This does not mean use the company 401k/403b. This means save on your own where you voluntarily take some piece of your income and invest it somehow, whether it's a savings account, stock, mutual funds, blah blah. At this point, the easiest solution is a savings account. Two years ago, I realized that 0.2% was not awesome and PNC was taking my money, investing it, and making 5-X% off my money at least. That's dumb. Why should they make money on my money when I could be. I did some research and came across the online savings realm. These were the three banks I've used starting with ING and I'll explain my transition.

  1. ING Orange Savings
  2. HSBC Online Savings
  3. UFB Absolute Savings
  ING HSBC UFB
Interest Rate** 4.10% 4.20% 5.10%
Authentication User must remember account number(8 digits). Computer memory using image recognition. Password is 4 digit pin number using a JavaScript keyboard Username/Password, then user must enter an 8 character password using a JavaScript keyboard Username/Password
Transaction methods ACH, Mail, Wire ACH, Mail, Wire Mail, UPS, Wire
Interface Simple, most Web 2.0-y I sense security using this interface, looks like any bank It's like a bank interface from 2002... little behind
ATM Card No Yes Yes
**Interest rates taken from 01/05/2008... could vary as the Feds continue to change their minds.

Now, if you take a look at these three, the one thing sticks out, the Interest rate! If you're in between HSBC and ING, I highly advise switching to HSBC. HSBC provides an ATM card to withdrawal whenever you want at small transaction fees, has higher interest, and the interface provides you with all the tools you need. I've been most satisfied for HSBC for about a year now but I realized with a little annoyances from the interface and having to do a few extra clicks to get my money where I want it, UFB makes me the most money. I decided a few days ago to switch to UFB and I'm happy so far... The annoying thing is that I have to hook up ACH through my PNC Checking and do pushes and pulls through the PNC interface rather than the UFB interface. It's a little different than what I'm used to but it's working out.

Those are my two cents which will hopefully be more cents now that I have 5.22%... wow, I'm funny.

Boo Google Maps

January 14, 2008 09:13.50 PM

So I've been using the Google Maps API for some small little apps and some side work I've been doing. When you want to use a map through their javascript interface, you have to include a script in the header passing a unique key in the URL as a GET variable.

Now, I have my own server at http://domain.com. In hopes of hiding from the powers of Comcast and just being abnormal, I pass all my traffic through port 3500... Alright, this is entirely a lie, I just don't feel like telling you my domain name nor do I want to give up my port number.

moving on...

Long story short, it stopped working, rahhh... Apparently Google's key is not just unique to the base domain. It is now unique to the port number. I'd imagine it's also unique to the subdomains as well now.

For all my readers out there and/or crickets, hopefully you'll avoid this mistake.
